It is time for the Democratic candidates to refocus on what the presidential election in 2008 is all about. The eight years of the Bush administration have seriously damaged the United States. It will take a great effort to reverse the course and get the country back on track.
The bickering among the Democratic candidates is damaging. It is distracting from the important issues. This is one of the reasons I’m against the primaries. Nevertheless, it is up to the candidates to keep focus on the main goal: A democratic victory in November 2008. Sure they have to convince everyone that they are the best for the job. Going after the other candidate, though, is, in my opinion, a poor way to do this. Winning at all costs may give them the candidacy, but what damage will it do to the Democratic campaign overall? We are used to the Republicans ruthlessly tearing apart their opponents. Attacking a persons character is usual practice for certain Republican candidates. It doesn’t go well with Democrats. It goes against what most Democrats feel is an appropriate way to campaign. The public majority, as well, cannot and does not respect a candidate that points fingers at others, jabs at other hacks at other. It is ugly!
There are times when it is necessary to “remove the gloves”, but there must be good reason. There must be something that they have done, bad enough, to justify this. There is absolutely no reason to “remove the gloves” during the primaries among the Democratic candidates or even for the Republican candidates for that matter.
Everyone of the three leading Democratic candidates has the potential to be an outstanding president. They all have convincing arguments. They all show the character to be an effective leader. It is difficult to say who will make the best candidate. However, for any of these candidates to have a chance to become president, they must MUST stop bickering amongst themselves. We need a candidate to emerge from the primaries with strength and support from the Democrats. A candidate who will be able to take on the Republican candidate and win.
