Hillary lost focus and lost South Carolina

Hillary’s veered off course and is in danger of losing the nomination process. Her aggressive attacks on her opponent Barack Obama, which I’m sure she hoped would boost her, backfired. Of course there are other factors that led to Barack’s win in SC, but her sniping certainly repelled many potential supporters.

Barack hit the head on the nail, when he said , the ”demonization of their opponents” and “saying anything and doing anything to win an election” are exactly what the voters, especially democratic voters, do not want. He is absolutely right when he says that, “this is why the voters tune out”.

The primary shows what negative campaign can accomplish.

Hillary has acted no better than the Republicans. If she is going to use republican tactics to win an election, how will she be able to distinguish herself from the Republicans, how can she convince anyone that she will do a better job than the republicans. Hillary wanted to use her experience to prove that she will make the better president, but her tactics have only shown that she is part of a political culture that is not there for the people. She may be preparing us for what will happen if Obama becomes the Democratic candidate, and trying to prove that he is, therefore, not electable. She may want to give us a take on what the Republicans will do to a Obama-Candidate. It hasn’t worked, though. For one, she has not done it very well and two, it is not necessary for her to show us that. If he becomes the Democratic candidate, then she would have plenty of opportunities to consult the Obama team and help then defuse such attacks as she did, when her husband ran for president. What she instead has done is to demonstrate that she is willing to play the Republican game, which like I said she did not do very well. She made a mistake and lost faith in her own abilities.

The last thing the Democrats need is to become divided. Only a united democratic effort will be able to beat the Republicans in the general election and form a strong bulwark in Washington to get the country back on track and help the lower and middle class.

It is OK to want to win the nomination, but you have to rely on your own virtues and not concentrate on your opponents weaknesses. That only puts your competence in question. Let the best candidate win even if it is not yourself.

Hillary Clinton herself denounced the “politics of personal destruction”. She then turned herself to such tactics.

Yes Hillary has learned a lot being in Washington. She has indeed gained a lot of experience. Unfortunately her choice of tactics show that this experience has tainted her character. She and Bill have be the target of so many attacks and this may have rubbed off so much that they themselves have turn to these tactics as well to achieve what they want. They of all people, though, should be the last to resort to personal attacks. They may be used to it. They were masters in overcoming it. It is a grave mistake to drop down to this level.

The campaign desperately needs to move away from the mud-slinging, and raise up to the moral expectations put upon them. The candidate who can accomplish this will have the best chance of becoming president next January.
