It is getting close to election day. McCain has decided to focus on taxes. In his efforts he has brought up a conversation between his opponent Barack Obama and a man he met in Ohio supposedly named Joe. Supposedly means that the story he presented in the final TV debate may (similar to his allegations against Obama) be distorting the truth.
McCain’s attempts to use this event to attack Obama on taxes is slowly but surely unraveling. This is typical for his entire campaign. At first he seems to have made a very intelligent move to counter his opponent. His nomination of Governor Palin is one of the greatest. Now though it is no longer clear that this move was so intelligent. Her appearences on TV and remarks she has made have had more of a negative affect than positive.
Now using Joe “the Plumber” from Ohio is starting to go this way as well. The New York Times and other new media have found out that Joe is not what McCain would have liked him to represent. Entrepreneurs that would suffer under Obama’s tax plans. Starting with the fact that he is not an entrepreneur. In fact he does not even have a plumber’s license. Second even if he did own a business, it would not make more than $250,000 in taxable income. Finally Joe himself has admitted that he would fair better under Obama’s tax plan than he does now.
McCain desperately hope to peg his opponent as someone, who would increase everyone’s taxes. His commercials have been trying to hammer this into the voter’s heads. Reviewing what Obama has said and published. He will be lowering taxes. He will be cutting taxes for a vast majority of Americans. Joe has even said this on TV
In my opinion such blatent distortion of the truth can only be punished with an overwehlming defeat in November.
